rio rojo, sat. sante fe, sun. i remember seeing a movie about a wild young folk singer who left a trail of scorched earth behind him as he traveled new mexico singing songs and drinking beer and goofing off mostly, not wanting for nothing except a new set of guitar strings and true love..at least for a night..and meeting poets and artists and cowboy character actors and motorcycle racers and one time drinking homemade wine with a honest to god real gypsy who had a huge scar running from his shoulder to his chin he had gotten in a knife fight with a soldier over a gypsy princess in hungary (she later died in the revolution and he never fell in love again) and running with young powerful performers named stephen fromholz, dan mccrimmon, johnny vandiver, big bill moss, allen damron, michael murphey (before he added his middle name of martin), charles lewis stevenson lll who became buckwheat stevenson and then b.w. stevenson and rick fowler and wayne kidd and eliza gilkyson and so many other just flat out cool wanderers cast upon the earth sharing a common thread of caring about and encouraging each other while on their travels here.. and how one night he rode an old motorbike without a headlight to angelfire to see a girl who was leaving the next day and riding back somewhere about three oclock in the morning, grateful there was a full moon lighting up the highway, realized he wasnt in love but was just a horny dumb ass on a motorcycle without a headlight on a highway in the sangre de christo mountains and..and..wait.. aw man. that wasnt a movie..it was my old head remembering stuff. sorry. anyhow red river songfest saturday and sante fe sunday. should be fun. yours truly, rwh
