so I am going to try and post a continuing saga of the OJAI rebuild.....after 6 years as a rental and not being totally redone before it was rented I knew there would be a issue...6 broken or non functioning windows, a blown heat pump so NO HEAT and the day I moved back in the water heater died....cold house cold showers and temps in the 30s at night have made it like daniel boone camping....however every thing I do there brings a smile to my face....its day 30 there so I will have to gatch up a few days at a time............. Day 1-3 What a mess, leaves havent been done in a couple years,,,,, yeah a couple years, in spots they are 4 feet deep. 60 plus trips to the dumpster so far and composite box 4x4x4 is packed. Covered all the bad windows with plastic sheet so it looks like Dexter lives there. Started my hauling all the debri out from inside and started plotting a map of construction. Day 4-6 Lowes lowes lowes, this place is eating thin set, floors are so un level but 400 ft of tile down and 380 feet to go, plus a major cleaning and reseal of the 380 feet of already in place sautillos. I mocked up the new kitchen counter so it will match the concrete bar and other counters, started repairing my bbq / firepit which had a 60 foot oak branch fall on it. It is somewhat repaired enough so I can at least have a fire bbq and relax...RELAX who am I kidding... Day 7-9 Started the day with the garbage disposal blowing up....oh joy....spent most of these three days pulling old carpet and prepping floors in the guest room, which is for RENT-----$500.00 including utilities...I need a roomate, blue eyed big breasted blonde would work................. Room is alot bigger with out all the cabinets and crap in it.. I will post pics later..... Also started to build a old school distressed wood bookcase for the room as I had to rebuild two walls any way due to rain coming in a broken window for 6 years and totally rotting the walls out...I actually put my fist thru the entire wall........go pro moment for sure... Day 10-12 Master bedroom tile is done except for grout, back room 1/2 done. Front room tiles shine like the sun, and all the windows are completely sealed. I got made at a blister in my concrete counter and chipped it out, 7 hours later I found myself re surfacing the entire counter top.....started the fridge clean out,,,,what a mess...... Leaves, leaves, leaves, and they are starting to fall again...is that why they call it FALL ???? Army cot is not working well for sleep and the no heat thing is not fun either. Andrea did give me credit card to get a new water heater but first I have to re build the heater box.. the entire water heater room is rotten and the water has been spraying on the front bath wall which is concrete on the interior but has rotted out the exterior. As soon as I can get it re built I will replace the heater. Heat pump will have to have new duct work inside and ex[osed as the old duct work under neath has been invaded by wildlife and is full of well debri....lets leave it at that so I am sealing off the vents. Got a little electric radiator heater, which works good for my room Day 13-15 Moved fridge and continued counter another 6 feet, as I worked today at a jobsite and traded half my labor for some left over marble tiles..... Cleaned oven which is 1970s version and really needs to be replaced....its the only thing in the kitchen that is original 12 cans of leaves to the dumpster, I can see dirt in a couple spots but havent even gone around to the back of the place..........Put my foot thru the number 2 step on my porch today so had to stop and re frame the steps, they will be cemented and sautillod soon...also made them 3 steps in stead of two and long enough to accommodate my feet. Sealed off hole behind front door where a little friend came thru last night...trap got him.....RIP cut Oak trees a little, and tried to clean porch Drained Jacuzzi and spent 4 hours scubbing black mold...it has been covered for 5 years......YUK.............. Jacuzzi although not hot is my new tub!!!! at least for tonight have to drain it again anyway so soap it up.... Day 16-18 Between working two different part time jobs and this full time mess I have been pretty busy....moved some furniture for a little old lady and got a cal king mattress from her for free....NO MORE ARMY cot which a rolled out of last night. Third time it has happened....good bye cot... First night bed was on floor but 2nd I had built a 40 tall bedframe and had it in it....16 storage boxes fit under it as does my radiant heater>>>>>>>>>>>LOL talk about pre heating the bed Tomorrow I will work on the yard take racing kart to shop to prep for Jonathan for xmas, and hauled 14 more cans of trash to the dumpster.. No internet, no phone, no tv, just BETH HART on the laptop.. Master is as done as I can get it without more funds to finish flooring under bed and replace cracked window..but its a room and becoming home..... Day 19-21 Bike ride today, tired of this place, tomorrow will be grout grout grout 16 hours worth...
