that was in a county paper online CLAY CITY MAN SENTENCED FOR MURDER OF A CHILD (11/01/13)rp According to Clay County State’s Attorney Marilyn Brant, Judge William Robin Todd sentenced 27-year-old Denny D. Blanchard, of Clay City, to 35-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, on Friday, October 25th. Brant stated that the charge against Blanchard was for 1st Degree Murder of a child under the age of twelve months;due to his shaking of the child, knowing that such an act created a strong probability of death to the infant. Blanchard entered a plea of guilty to the charge, and was sentenced to serve the 35-years. Because of the nature of the crime, he will serve 100% of the sentence imposed. The Clay City Fire Department’s First Responders initially arrived at the scene, and assisted the Clay County Hospital paramedics. The child was ultimately transferred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office requested input from the Illinois State Police. Following the child’s death, the Southern Illinois Child Death Investigation Team became involved in the investigation with the assistance of the medical personnel of Children’s Hospital and the St. Louis Medical Examiner. Michael Vujovich of the Illinois State’s Attorney’s Appellate Prosecutor’s office assisted in the prosecution of the case
