Americans have this absurd confirmation bias - thats something that is profitable deserves to be profitable or is profitable because of its qualities. the reality is people with big money put millions of dollars in making Miley Cyrus, flooded the entire world with advertising about her song, and we were provided with no alternatives that were quality. the same holds true for last 15 years of indie rock music. Publicists you were also advertisers / managers, promoted and place in festivals music that could be easily be placed in commercials and movies. but people assume that there was some taste change in the consumers of Music. its the same confirmation bias that plagues Americans in all of their analysis - a default autopilot validation of the financial success of anything. its like living in a world where the King has infallibility, but the king of the simple appearance of dollars numbers. people do not want to admit that theyre being manipulated and that their choices are being engineered by people in the top.
