#thesheepsguild #christmascalendar #calendar #christmas On our tour around the parishes that make up the region of southern #norway called #agder we have tonight come to the territory of #åseral (From the book Bygder og Byar på Agder by O.S.M. 1975) Åseral belongs to one of the great territories of western Agder. It is so big that neither the political left or right have gained any mastery over these old borders. The parrish is about fifty kilometers long, and covers its vastness also lenghtwise. Here are great rooling plateaus, big waterfalls, good fishing waters, beautiful farms, fresh slowing winter waters, and any natural beauty man might desire. The åsdøls are one of the most peculiar peoples between Mandal in the south, and the #polarcircle and it is thought that the creator knew best what he did when he put these people ingenious people up at the feet of the long mountain chain that stretches throughout the lenght of Norway. It has never been easy for regular people to stand alongside fully bred åsdøls. In the eastern part of Agder there still goes cold shivers up the bone marrow when the tales of Jo Person and Ola Wormeli beat the setesdøls to pieces during one particular fair. The åsdøls are a little bit like the town council of Grimstad in that they quarrell and dispute much internally. In the county council the can bicker about any trifle big or small till the fat lady sings and the chicken come home too roost. But outward, and aborad, where they may meet their phallax is tighter than a freemason meeting. The bishop of Stavanger prefers to have as little as possible with them to do. Even if it only a couple of generations back since the åsdøls stopped in their heathen ways, there are still a couple of demigods whose spirit are near and dear to any åsdøl worth his grain. Among them is the revered Jon Sæland. the man who created the Dalasheep . His name shall never be forgotten as long as there remains #sheep in Åseral. Of other merits, Åseral produces 100 000kW of electrical energy and gives electricity to much of Vest Agder, the åsdøls are probably among the friendliest you could hope to meet in Norway, one ram has won two national championships, and beauty queen Matha Andersen won two world championships in #nyc* Åseral is the most beautiful territory of westerna Agder, and the åsdøls are vivid story tellers, and are quick to see the comedy of everyday life. This has come from times of old. Its rare to meet people who will freely share their wisdom as a much vinegar and salt as they feel adequate. One becomes fond of this rare mountain breed with this strong joie de vivre, and when the inscense from the altar of #mammon settles, many a moment I have looked back with great joy on the great blue mountains there. *The Sheepsguild regrets that no usable photos of the beauty pageant where Martha Anderson won was found on the internet. #Like, #comment, #share and #follow :) https://youtube/watch?v=WuZa8t6SSUg&feature=youtu.be
