this is true, if both people dont have ability and freedom to confront and be confronted--- the relationship CANNOT grow. Just as a garden needs a little weeding weekly, so it is for relationships----------- to be and stay healthy we need to and should want to perform the necessary maintenance, through sitting down and talking things over, and be open and willing to say, tell me anything I am doing that is bothering you ------- or tell me anything that you really want to say but think I will get upset about ------ if both sides can have the freedom to say hard things in a way that is as gentle as possible but without fear of an emotional tirade ---- I believe that it would go a long way to building trust and confidence in relationships. But it only takes one side to say no, Im such a great catch that if you dont think Im perfect and flawless---- I will just play the silent treatment game or the Ill hide in the garage game,---- or Ill hide in my hobby game. Those approaches are relationship killers.
