update from oncologist visit to day... long read, but just putting it out there, and need to get it all strait in my own head as well. they scheduled the PET scan for next thursday, with results the following day. if it tests positive for metabolic activity, then ill have to go to a thoracic surgeon to get cut on for a biopsy. what ever it is is to close to my heart for them to do it any other way. LMAO i have scientific proof that i actually DO have a heart. The PET scan is basically a CT scan with radio active sugar that detects metabolic activity. now, if this thing thats in me doesnt react then good to go just get a CT scan every few months to check on its size etc.. if it lights up like a Christmas tree, then ill have to see the surgeon. Chances are good, like 80% its gonna light up. just about everything does, say for example, if Valerie punches me in the chest the night before, the area that bruises will light up. its really a non-specific test as to WHAT the thing is, mainly it just looks for anything active. IF i have to have the biopsy done, basically they will cut me open at the base of my neck/throat drop a camera down there along with various other tools of destruction and grab a slice of it. the problem here is the sheer number of things in the way, like, for example, pretty much the major artery that comes off the heart is smack dab in the way. hey never said i was easy right? so, basically nothing was decided today, just more tests to make an already nervous wife even more nervous.
