People need to realize that when something like a prison sentence occur, you will need to go above and beyond in order to maintain a tight connection. In jail your loved one will be subjected to many trials and tribulations and in many cases their own character will be tested over and over again. These experiences leave a mark and changes the individual. The rest of the family are also going through similar trials and are also changing every day. New responsibilities, new dynamics require a new approach to maintaining the family together. You must first learn to forgive because despite the fact that you are suffering because of the actions of one, you still don’t understand the reasoning behind these actions. And even if your loved one were to explain to you with words, you would never be able to perceive the world through the eyes of another. Forgiveness is key to keeping your family together. The second thing is communication. Maintain contact! You need to continue to establish a link between you and your loved one. This is done by visitations, letters, virtual visits and phone conversations. By using these tools to stay in touch you provide a life line for your loved one. You create the opportunity to keep on dreaming and in the end this is the only thing that will keep you together. It will keep your loved one and you growing together which is the foundation of any strong relationship.
