what if a premature is born in a poor family ? can they afford to save this child ? I remember it was about 20 yrs ago, a puny newborn was brought me with the secretions all over. It was a case of a premature delivery at home. It just happened spontaneously,no labor no pains!! It was a boy child about one3/4 KG wt, you can imagine the joy for the parents & GPS. I could not do much but I definitely advised what to do ie take the child to the nearby good hospital ,it needs to be kept in incubator etc.It so happened this marathi poor couple could not afford & just decided to leave it alone!! The child grew & was brought to me for treatment here & there. Every time I would look for a Congenital heart ailment ,a hernia etc.I could not find any. Both parents were short but the complexion was Kareena kapoors !!! I tried hard to find a congenital anomaly every time he was at my place for treatment, he grew up without any major health issues & is now 6 feet tall handsome teenager . The cost of medical expenses almost zero . Frankly they could not afford but they saved the child & everything ended well !! Recently I came across a case of premature born to a above poor class girl whom I know .It was a female child born in the hospital.Both are in the hospital for the the last 2months plus. The bill has crossed Rs 10 lacks plus ( rs 10 lacks is paid by ESI & beyond that the party has to pay ,thanks to ESI ).Now the situation is both cannot be shifted out & are waiting eagerly the bill mounting every day.The infant is just 2 months plus. The parent wanted to terminate in early pregnancy due to severe vomiting & the gynae advised to continue . As usual the party is cursing the gynae(Probably more so BZ it is a female child) & parallely trying to save the child !! Here are two situations where one going smooth & the other in trouble. The moral of the story ---It is tough going if a premature is born in a poor family . God save them !!
