~xan Centro Shalom Seeks Urgent Community Support for over 300 Thanksgiving Food Baskets LONG BEACH - Centro Shaloms Thanksgiving Drive is committed to provide over 300 food baskets to local families this Thanksgiving and is in need of additional support. Every year, Centro Shalom collects food and turkeys to offer free food baskets to those families in need of a basic meal on Thanksgiving. With the help of our volunteers from the community, all our baskets will be assembled and delivered on November 26 and 27. Currently 386 families have signed up requesting baskets and the list grows daily. More resources are needed. In particular, turkeys, large chickens and monetary donations for purchases are urgently needed. Individuals wishing to donate or volunteer should contact Sharon Cotrell or James Suazo (see below). Freezers and refrigerators are available so meat may be brought in at anytime. Other foods needed include rice, instant potatoes, onions, beans, celery, canned milk, margarine and cranberry sauce. Donations can be dropped off at Centro Shalom, located at 2131 Long Beach Blvd. Long Beach, 90806 from 12 pm to 2 pm on Saturday, by appointment on Sunday, or from 9 am to 6 pm on Monday through Wednesday. For a drop-off appointment, please call James at 562-546-3868. Volunteers are always ready to help unload donations and provide tax receipts. Donations via check can be arranged by calling or texting Sharon at 562-900-1009. Checks should be payable to “Centro Shalom” with “Thanksgiving” in the memo. All checks must be mailed to South Coast Interfaith Council: 759 Linden Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90813-4501. If you are mailing a donation, please call Sharon immediately so we will know how much money have to shop with. Centro Shaloms mission is to provide pathways to health and self-sufficiency to the under served and impoverished of greater Long Beach and the surrounding communities through core services and multi-level assistance. All services are offered free of charge. Based out of Central Long Beach, Centro Shalom is a non-profit program of the South Coast Interfaith Council and has served the community since 1977. For more information, please visit centroshalom.org/en/thanksgiving-food-drive. Only by the help and support of the community and dedicated volunteers has Centro Shalom survived to help others. On behalf of the staff and volunteers, we thank you for your compassion and generosity this Thanksgiving holiday.
