yayyyyyyyyyyyyy community, staff and patients won. We are keeping the historic old buildings.....everlasting staff BBQs outside Vanderfield from now on... Dear colleagues Royal North Shore Hospital continues to provide important health services to its community, as evidenced by the major investment that has recently occurred on our campus, approaching $1.3 billion in new clinical facilities. Now we have some important and exciting news about what’s to happen next on the RNSH campus. Following the 2011 NSW election it was decided that a detailed master plan study should be undertaken to properly determine the use of the campus with a view to current and future health needs. To this end, a Master Plan Executive Working Group (MEWG) was established, chaired by NSLHD Board member Associate Professor Annette Schmiede. Along with the NSLHD Chief Executive, Adjunct Associate Professor Vicki Taylor, and representatives of the RNSH Executive and Health Infrastructure, membership of the MEWG included the following senior clinicians: o Dr Michael Nicholl o Dr Danny Stiel o Dr John Vandervord o Dr Tony Joseph o Dr Bruce Cooper o Professor Jonathon Morris In developing the master plan, the original 2006 decision to sell the majority of the remaining portions of the campus was overturned. The focus of future use of the site is to enable an environment where RNSH is able to provide world class health and research facilities that respond to the needs of the community, focusing on patient and staff well-being while promoting a healing environment and a sense of place for the community. The master plan identifies a number of areas for future growth of services such as ambulatory care, acute, sub-acute, community, mental health, research and education and health support. The preservation and adaptive re-use of culturally, socially and historically significant elements of the RNSH campus and its immediate surrounds has been considered, and the plan provides for green spaces and a heritage precinct around the Vanderfield building. It also creates new opportunities for other clinical service providers as well as strategies for the complete redevelopment of the main hospital in the future. The master plan was enthusiastically endorsed by the North Shore Ryde Community Participation Committee in January 2013. In March 2013, the NSLHD Board also endorsed the master plan concept and agreed that it proceed to the implementation phase. Part of the southern campus – about eight per cent of the total site – is identified as a support zone and is intended to provide accommodation for staff, patients and carers, health administration and child care services, as well as commercial and retail facilities for the campus. The NSW Ministry of Health will be re-located to this part of the campus. Access to public transport will also be significantly improved, with better connections across the campus and to St Leonards railway station. An expanded working group, chaired by Assoc Prof Schmiede and including senior clinicians and representatives of NSLHD and Health Infrastructure, has been meeting regularly to enable redevelopment of the southern campus to begin. The next step is to call for Expressions of Interest which will seek input from the market to inform a preferred way of delivering the redevelopment of the southern campus. Staff of RNSH and the wider NSLHD community will be kept informed as things progress. Professor Carol Pollock Adjunct Associate Professor Vicki Taylor Board Chair Chief Executive
