Some days ago our Ministry of Tourism and especially the Greek National Touristic Organization, who is controlled by the Ministry, presented a film for the 100 years of the Greek Tourism (https://youtube/watch?v=5L0jzJTm9ug ) in WTM in London. The film has aroused a wave of complaints, since the aesthetic and the concept of it was to say at least, non-viewable. The film was a montage of clips from other short films which some of them and not all of them, are attributed in the end titles. Through the social media the newspaper “The Guardian” discovered that there was also a clip form the Olympic Games of 1936 which they pointed out to the Ministry and they took of this clip, the article can be found here(theguardian/world/2014/nov/06/berlin-olympics-1936-hitler-new-greek-tourism-film ). But a day later we, by we I mean myself and some friend while talking to Facebook, we discovered another clip which shows a time lapse of a starry sky in the famous Twelve Apostle beach in Australia while the film is talking about the starry sky of Greece! We searched and we found that this clip is from your work with the title “Ocean Sky” in YouTube (https://youtube/watch?v=DSLgAsrcpGQ ). Your license is a standard YouTube license and in any case there is no attribution to your name. Since the director of the film Mr. Kioukas has been paid for this monstrosity I would like to ask you, first if you were ever contacted from anybody of the production of the Greek film and if you ever have given your permission for the use of this clip without not even the attribution of this work to you? We, as Greeks, are deeply insulted by the whole way that our Ministry and its subcontractors have handled the Greek Tourism and also the works of other creators and we would like to apologize on behalf of them. Except the apologizes we would like you to know that if you want to protest, in any way against the mistreatment of your work we would support you , in fact we would like to urge you to do so and the least we can do is to support publicly your protest in any way we can, through social media and through making it known via the local and international press. I agree with you the film is rather unpleasant to watch and I think the statement the light in everywhere on Earth is just light but somehow different in Greece could be offensive to many. The ignorance in astronomy is also astounding - to present the southern hemisphere sky as if it was viewed from Greece? It is an insult to Hipparchus, Ptolemy and every Greek astronomer and indeed most of the constellations!!! I have not authorised Mr. Kioukas to use any of my clips, however they could have done it through three video agencies that have that clip in their databases. However I have not been paid by any of the agencies either. I will investigate and let you know the outcome. What would be the best way to contact the producers of the film? On the other front I will inform The World At Night (twanight.org) group which I belong to and try to get some media interest in this horrible incompetence. Thanks again, Alex Cherney #ΕΟΤ
