Special Advisory - Libya: Tripoli: Expect heightened security following militia violence in central areas Travellers should anticipate heightened security in the capital Tripoli in the coming hours and days following heavy fighting between rival militias overnight in the city on 7-8 November. At least one person was killed and twelve others injured during the violence, which reportedly involved the use of heavy weaponry, including anti-aircraft guns and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). Although details are still emerging, it appears that al-Nassour militia from Misrata (Misrata province) attacked a Tripoli-based militia in retaliation for the killing of their commander, who died on 7 November from wounds recieved during fighting in Tripoli on 5 November. Violence was reported in several areas throughout the capital, including along the al-Shatt coastal road and in the central Shara Al-Shatt and Zawiyat Dahmani districts, in the south-central Ben Ashour and Nufleen districts, and in the eastern Souq al-Juma district. The centrally-located Radisson hotel near Zawiyat Dahmani was also hit during the fighting and sustained some damage.
