द्वादश ज्योतिर्लिंग स्तोत्रम् ----------------------- सौराष्ट्रे सोमनाथं च श्रीशैले मल्लिकार्जुनम्। उज्जयिन्यां महाकालमोङ्कारममलेश्वरम्॥ परल्यां वैद्यनाथं च डाकिन्यां भीमशङ्करम्। सेतुबन्धे तु रामेशं नागेशं दारुकावने॥ वाराणस्यां तु विश्वेशं त्र्यम्बकं गौतमीतटे। हिमालये तु केदारं घुश्मेशं च शिवालये॥ एतानि ज्योतिर्लिङ्गानि सायं प्रातः पठेन्नरः। सप्तजन्मकृतं पापं स्मरणेन विनश्यति॥ Dwadash Jyotirlingams ---------------------------- Monday is dedicated to the worship of Mahadeva, or Shiva. He is worshipped in the Lingam, which represents the endless vertical column of light in which form Shiva appeared when Brahma and Vishnu were arguing about who is greater - Brahma, the Creator, or Vishnu, the Sustainer. The column extended from the heavens and through the earth. Brahma went upwards and Vishnu below but they could not reach the end of the column. Vishnu conceded his inability but Brahma lied that he had reached the top end. When Shiva ultimately showed Himself, He rebuked Brahma for lying and said he would have no place in ceremonies while Vishnu would be worshipped till the end of eternity. Pilgrims throng the temples where the twelve jyotirlingams are situated. There is a legend behind each Lingam, how they were established etc. The Dwadash Jyotirlinga stotram was written by Adi Sankaracharya.
