சிற்றாறு: To view the English translation see below the Tamil version சிற்றாறு , திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டம் தென்காசி அருகில் உள்ள குற்றால மலையில் உருவாகும் ஆறாகும் .. இது 80 கிலோமீட்டர்கள் நீளமும், 1,722 சதுர கி.மீ. பரப்பளவும்[1]கொண்டது. இது சீவலப்பேரி என்னும் ஊரில் தாமிரபரணி ஆற்றுடன் இணைகிறது. இந்த ஆறு தாமிரபரணி ஆற்றிற்கு முக்கிய துணை ஆறுகளில் ஒன்றாகும். இதற்கு ஐந்து முதன்மைத் துணையாறுகள் உள்ளன. அவை ஐந்தருவி ஆறு, அரிகர நதி, அனுமன் நதி, அழுதகன்னியாறு ஆகும். இதைத்தவிர உப்போடை என்ற துணையாறும் உண்டு.இதன் மூலம் பல்வேறு தென்காசி-திருநெல்வேலி வட்டங்களில் உள்ள நிலங்கள் பாசனவசதி பெறுகின்றன Chittar River is one of the beautiful rivers located in Tirunelveli District. It origins in the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats in the Courtalam hills, called Tirikoodam in literature, at an altitude of 1750m. Its total length is about 80 km. It is the main tributary of the river Tamiraparani. It meets the river Tamiraparani near Sivalapperi village of Tirunelveli Taluk. It consist of five tributaries and numerous other contributing streams that originate in the Courtallam hills of Tirunelveli District. They are, the Aintharuviar which joins its main river near Gajamajorpuram, the Gundar or Govindar which joins near Tenkasi town the Hanumanathi which mingles with its main river near Veerakeralampudur village and the Aluthakanniar which meets the main river in Kadapagothi village, all in Tenkasi taluk.
