Pastor Thomas Abraham and church leaders worked diligently to put together the gathering at the India Christian Assembly of God Church. This church, in a small village, had been well established in the community for twenty years. Never before had they planned such an event, on such a large scale! Three hundred men, women and children, came from all parts of India. Their long journey filled with hope and excitement. When the three-day revival launched the Spirit flowed; worship, prayer, teaching, filled the hearts of believers on the first wonderful day. However, darkness was coming. On day two, at around three in the afternoon, a group of 30-35 young men, armed with iron rods and wooden sticks, disrupted the meeting. According to eye- witnesses, “The attackers started to beat people like animals.” During the onslaught additional men from the community joined in. With faces covered, they hide their identity as they beat men, women and children alike. “A one year-old girl named Mahima fell unconscious. There was chaos as Christians fled for their lives.” Police, who had been called, stood by and watched – mere spectators, as women and children screamed for help. After three hours the assault ended. “Massive damage was done to the church property, vehicles were destroyed,” witnesses reported. “Many fled in fear and have since gone into hiding.” Mother Teresa once told a child, “If she wanted to be great for the Kingdom, find your own Calcutta!” In 2013, there are many “Calcutta” type needs throughout the persecuted church. Starvation, medical needs, homelessness, abuses and torture. Jesus is looking for believers who want to become great for the Kingdom, believers who are willing to stand up and take action. Will you become one with us, helping Pastor Thomas Abraham, and thousands of others around the world? There is room in heaven for more than one Mother Teresa! One With Them There is no human condition for which the believer isn’t called to show compassion – widows, orphans, the hungry, the sick, the homeless, the believers imprisoned for their faith.
