- 1 arm press to handstand - a progression - The one arm press to handstand is one of the most advanced and complex handstand related strength skills out there. I had made some great improvements on it until I injured my R shoulder 3 years ago and only recently I was able to return to my pre- surgery/injury condition and continue on my quest... In the following progression I use cubes in order to increase the difficulty by stacking them up . It shows the work that goes into achieving, not to mention maintaining such a skill... The hardest variation of this press is done from a one arm straddle L sit (or regular L sit) on the floor. It is one of those long term goals, that even if not achieved, will teach you a thing or two along the way and will benefit your practice… The 1 arm press is a classic example of a skill that requires a combination of great upper body strength, good flexibility (side flexion, middle splits, forward flexion), and some good genetics (strong upper body/ skinny legs is not un common among hand balancers . Over the years I have met and trained with handstand practitioners who just do this skill without much practice - comparatively...
