Hope Creek control room operators manually shutdown the reactor at 1:31 p.m. Wednesday following the failure of the water pump, PSEG Nuclear Spokesman Joe Delmar said. Operators have stabilized the unit and the plant functioned as designed, he added. Repair plans are in progress, Delmar said, adding it is unknown when Hope Creek will return to service. Operated by PSEG Nuclear, Hope Creek is a boiling water reactor design with a net megawatt output of 1219 megawatts. It provides electricity for a million homes each day.
