-Hatred is one of the many evolutionary tools of the human capacity for thought and emotion, and like any tool, it can be utilized benevolently or maliciously abused. The human mind would not have developed to include the capacity for such a powerful emotion as hatred if hatred did not have some beneficial uses for both the survival of the individual and for the cohesion of a functional society. It is one of the sharpest (most dangerous) tools available to the human consciousness, and as such must be handled with precise care and respect when it threatens to overwhelm reason. Hatred is like fire- incredibly destructive when uncontrolled, but it can be a highly useful tool of creative change when intelligently and respectfully focused towards certain beneficial ends. Like fire, hatred can burn uncontrollably, or it can be shared responsibly to warm and illuminate. It is when hatred overwhelms reason that it ceases to be an effective and socially acceptable means towards a beneficial end. All human emotion, like everything else in existence, is part of an unending chain of causality- we must take the time to carefully examine the causes and effects of any hatred. By accepting and controlling our own hatred, we gain a greater individual self-awareness and greater control over our own lives. Hatred can manifest as an emotion or a state of mind, and hatred of the conditions which create suffering can potentially lead to the end of those conditions through the galvanization of social action. We can choose to create awareness and self-empowerment around powerful emotions on both ends of the emotional spectrum to gain a greater understanding of ourselves and those around us. Hate, like love, can be ignored, misapplied, or abused- love and hate are among the most powerful emotions self-aware entities experience, and so they require much consideration and care in their application- thus, we should choose not to ignore or deny hate, but to accept hate, understand it, and use it responsibly, and address its misapplied usages. We all live with both love and hatred within us- love cannot exist without the contrast of hate, and part of what defines us is how we accept and express these emotions.
