-South Atlantic magnetic anomaly- ---------------------- -Off the Brazilian coast, scientists have detected a zone where the geomagnetic field is decreasing rapidly in intensity, which would endanger our planet. This area was named the South Atlantic magnetic anomaly. anomaly magnetique2 -An area threatened by cosmic radiation... -Dubbed the South Atlantic magnetic anomaly, this area covers nearly 7.8 million square kilometers and continues to expand... -Every day, the cosmic radiation approximates the surface of the Earth. -The origin of this anomaly eludes us still. But the consequences could be dramatic. -At NASA, researchers are studying its impact on our technologies. -Due to the energetic particles found in the South Atlantic magnetic anomaly, and also new particles made by solar winds, there was countless breakdowns in communications satellites. -Flying over the anomaly, the satellites could be damaged permanently. Precautionary measure, some Hubble instruments are thus momentarily extinguished when the telescope enters this area. Because of the weakening of the geomagnetic field over the South Atlantic, radiation descended lower and lower and threaten more than our technological tools... -People travelling on board long commercial mail necessarily cross areas where the magnetic field is weak. And the altitude where to fly these aircraft, they are exposed to a greater amount of radiation. This particle flow is also likely to disrupt radio communications, endangering passengers and crew. -According to scientists, the South Atlantic magnetic anomaly is the sign of a decrease in the intensity of the field magnetic all around the planet... -The anomaly of the South Atlantic (cluster) is the point where the - rings of charged particles that surround the Earth - Van Allen radiation belts are closest to the surface of the planet. -When the belts were discovered in the 1950s, scientists suspected that the cluster might pose some risk. -Actually, as the spacecraft Electronics became more complex, problems were on the rise. -Astronauts on the space shuttle have noticed that their laptops would sometimes crash when they passed by the anomaly, and they saw strange lights flashing before their eyes. -Some spacecraft, such as the Hubble space telescope, are programmed to switch off their delicate instruments when they fly through the pile to avoid damage. -Taking into account the cluster properties, geomagnetically induced currents can be produced in the South of Brazil, through infrastructure metal of great size such as railways, power of high-power lines, the network of water or other large mechanical structures. -In the case of large geomagnetic storm, these currents can damage structures. -Polarity -What have scientists discovered? -The Swarm mission is composed of three satellites (Alpha, Bravo and Charlie) launched in November 2013, and in charge of studying the changes of terrestrial magnetism. Located at orbits ranging from 300 to 530 km of altitude, they boarded an armada of instruments including saturation flow (VFM) magnetometers that measure the direction of the magnetic field and the absolute scalar magnetometers (ASM), which record the intensity of the field. According to the European Space Agency: Swarm provides insight into the complex workings of the Earths magnetic field, which protects us from cosmic rays and charged particles that bombard us unprecedented. -The Earths magnetic field is not stable and is reversed at irregular intervals, which according to scientists, can vary from 100,000 years to several million years. -The last noticeable change in the magnetic poles - called Brunhes-Matuyama - occurred there are already more than 780,000 years (i.e. a period of time much higher that the average interval between two inversions). -This process occurs in several phases during which the field weakens in some places, while it reinforces others. Then the two fields (positive and negative) is dilluer - a bit the image of a glass containing water and oil that it would shake-, thus leaving appear several North and South poles randomly distributed in various parts of the globe. -Finally, always to the image of the water/oil mixture, the magnetic dissolution decreases, and aggregate multiple poles, allowing the recovery of two distinct poles, but this reverse time. -However, according to the measurements on the last six months, the results confirm the tendency to a weakening of our magnetosphere, whose decline is the most spectacular Western hemisphere and particularly in North America, but also in other areas, as for example South of the Indian Ocean or the magnetic field has increased since the month of January 2014. -According to the national Institute of sciences of the universe, the intensity of the magnetic field Earth current decreased by an average of 5% per century, and this decline has accelerated sharply since 1840. -The anomaly of the Atlantic South and ozone layer -The anomaly of South Atlantic (clusters or AAS), covers 7.800.000 km2 (either? 2780 km by 2780 km) and it continues to expand. The necessary data can be acquired as a satellite to alert local authorities in time. -Due to a decrease in the magnetic shielding of the Earth, or large areas of the globe, the ozone layer can be attacked by solar particles, and to reduce the layer so as to render the very problematic life in different regions. -It is already the case at Punta Arena in southern Chile, city of 120,000 inhabitants, in the vertical position of a large ozone hole. The inhabitants remain confined at home between 11: 00 and 15: 00. The other hours of the day the children must depart with cream solar otherwise they catch a sunburn in a few minutes. -A similar case comes to be discovered in the Bolivian Andes, or American and German researchers have a record of UVB intensity with an index to 43! -It was measured near the volcano Licancabur (5917 meters above sea level) and close to Laguna Blanca (4340 m).
