MANILA — Chris Banchero is not asking for the moon and stars from Alaska. This is the assurance made by Banchero’s co-agent, Matthew Manotoc, when reached by Sports Desk Online on why the prolific former ABL superstar guard has not signed a contract with the Aces, two weeks after he was drafted. Manotoc insisted that they are not asking for anything above the maximum. “Its (contract) not quite maximum. No under the table even. What we are asking from them is within the rules (of the PBA),” explained the son of legendary Crispa coach Tommy Manotoc. “The problem that holds the negotiation is the fact that (team governor) Dickie (Bachmann) is in Spain right now, so we’re on hold,” he added. “But we’re hoping to wrap it up soon.” Bachmann is expected to the be back in the country with the rest of the PBA board later this week. But the question persists: “Will Banchero sign with Alaska?” Manotoc gave his response: “Well, hopefully. We’ll see how things pan out. We just have to come to an agreement.” The youthful talent agent, who is also taking a masters degree in the US, assured Aces fans that they are not asking for anything beyond the allowable. “Were assuring them that we are not asking too much. Theyre offering close to max, said Manotoc, while stressing that the current Alaska offer is still a little below the maximum for rookies of PHP150,000 a month. “We are grateful they drafted him. Right now, it’s on Alaska on how they will handle this stalemate with Chris,” Manotoc said. Asked by Sports Desk Online if there are already feelers from other teams for the high profile guard, Manotoc had no ready answer. “There are teams which are interested I am sure, but Alaska hasn’t agreed to anything yet. And I don’t think they’re proactively offering Chris (to other teams),” he said. — Sports Desk Online Follow Snow on Twitter: @snowbadua
