04-09-2014 Gospel of the Day Psalms 24 1. The earth [is] the LORDS, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. 3. Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? 4. He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 5. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6. This [is] the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. 7. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 8. Who [is] this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. 9. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift [them] up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 10. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he [is] the King of glory. Selah. Luke 5 1. And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2. And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing [their] nets. 3. And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simons, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4. Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7. And they beckoned unto [their] partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. 8. When Simon Peter saw [it], he fell down at Jesus knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9. For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10. And so [was] also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. 11. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him. Commentary on the Gospel It all started with a chance encounter with Jesus. Compressed by eager to hear the Word of God crowds, the Master asked Simon a favor: take you on his boat a bit into the lake of Gennesaret, not far from the shore so he could speak to the multitudes. His request was promptly answered. When finished preaching, gave Simon an unexpected order: drive the boat into deeper water and cast the net. Simon had worked in vain all night, but by obedience to the Master, launched the network again. And it resulted in a spectacular fishing. However, the most remarkable fact was Simon had a chance to recognize Jesus as the Messiah. The terror that gripped him and his companions was similar to that in the Old Testament happened in theophanies, when people thought they would die if they saw God. Simon recognized in Jesus the manifestation of divinity. And he urged him not to be afraid, because his life had been transformed. Henceforth have another concern, not with fish, but with human beings. Simon accepted the task of being a fisher of people, and set to follow Jesus. Began a new life for him. prayer Father confirms my calling to be fishers of human beings, and lead me to deeper waters where those most in need of my love. 1 Corinthians 3 18. Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 20. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. 21. Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; 22. Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; 23. And ye are Christs; and Christ [is] Gods.
