04-15-2014: Origins of income inequality: Most of the public media discourse on whats publicly in the media called, income inequality, talks of this issue as if it arose in some kind of social, economic, material, historical vacuum. But the problem is, it didnt. You cannot address the issue of income inequality without addressing the issue of the underlying economic, social, and political system - or systems (historically speaking) - in which it arose. You have to - first of all - throw in the garbage can the American prejudice against the idea of class, and class division, which is not popular in the U.S. You have to look at America as a class-divided country. Second, you have to have an idea of what class is that is more scientifically meaningful, more scientifically substantial, than what Americans typically are taught about that word, class, and what it means. Third, you should at least have a fundamental acceptance of the idea that science is a good thing, and that the linked idea that starting from the premise of material reality as your starting point is a good thing. Most of the public media discourse on what they call, income inequality, fails these tests. --Allan Greene, 04-15-2014
