0612 THE MOTHERHOOD THAT STARTED IT ALL (The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God. Cycles A, B, C. Ref. Rdgs. 1st. From the Book of Numbers 6:22-27. 2nd. From the Letter of St. Paul to the Galatians 4:4-7. 3rd/Gospel. From the holy Gospel according to Luke 2:16-21. Responsorial Psalm. Ps 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8) Mary’s role in the plan of God, the salvation of humankind, cannot just be taken for granted. She has done something awesome, to say the least. Her FAITH, her total entrustment of herself, her life, to the Most High One, manifests in that singular episode of the ANNUNCIATION, where, despite her confusion, though the words, these mysterious words of the angel Gabriel, still unclear to her at that very moment, she put forth her FIAT and said, ‘’I AM THE HANDMAID OF THE LORD, BE IT DONE UNTO ME ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD.’’ This is what makes her ‘’blessed among women’’; a model of CHRISTIAN FAITH for all. That ‘’Yes’’ signalled her conception by the power of the Holy Spirit where the Most High overshadowed her...’’...for nothing will be impossible with God...’’, the comment of the Angel Gabriel about the six month pregnancy of Elizabeth as mentioned to Mary. Thence, the START OF IT ALL...the birth of the child-king, the Messiah, the reconciliation of humanity to the Father; the passion and death and resurrection, the Christian confession, of Jesus, the Son of Mary; then onwards to the fledgling Church; then NOW... Aptly, the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, is celebrated at the beginning of each year, parallel to the celebration of the New Year. This is significant in the sense that indeed, Mary’s ‘’yes’’, the signal of her Motherhood, starts the beginnings of the fullness of God’s plan of salvation for the world. This is what we celebrate now...since that first NEW START WITH MARY, we could have had a real change in our life; turning into a new leaf; putting on the ‘’persona’’ of a changed believer; signalling our running from our old ways of darkness into the new clothes of LIGHT. And so, yes, sound those cymbals, those gongs and drums; blow those horns and trumpets; make those blares of joy and gladness heard by all the nations of the world; let the earth shake in a new eagerness of change and beginnings for NOTHING CAN EVER, EVER OUTDO WHAT MARY, THE SIMPLE MAIDEN FROM NAZARETH, HAS DONE FOR THE WHOLE OF HUMANTIY IN HER COOPERATION, IN HER ‘’YES’’ TO THE FATHER SHE LOVES SO MUCH... THE ‘’YES’’ OF MARY MUST EVOKE OUR OWN YES TO THE FATHER’S EFFORTS TO REACH OUT TO HUMANITY...FOR HE WANTS ALL TO BE WITH HIM, AS HIS CHILDREN, TRUE HEIRS TO HIS KINGDOM...IN ETERNITY... Let us pray: O FATHER, GOD OF WONDER AND GOODNESS, FULL OF MERCY AND SO FORGIVING, DO NOT LET ME HESITATE TO SAY ‘’YES’’ TO YOUR DESIRES AND WILL FOR ME. LET ME WATCH AND WAIT FOR YOUR PLAN FOR ME, YOUR NEXT MOVE IN MY LIFE WHICH WILL PUT ME EVER ON THE RIGHTEOUS PATHS EVERY TIME. EVEN IF IT MEANS LOSING MY HEALTH, SUFFERING AND CRINGING IN PAIN, LET ME DO YOUR WILL AND STILL SAY ‘’YES’’, THOUGH WAN...FOR I DO NOT CARE FOR THIS WORLD’S COMFORTS AND CONVENIENCE, SO LONG AS I DO YOUR DESIRES ALONE, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST, YOUR SON, WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT, TO YOUR HIGHEST GLORY, FOR EVER AND EVER.
