1/1/15 Rant #2 I will some day go to Washington. I must protest the way hospitals and doctors fleece the public with what I like to call The Doctor Not On Staff scam. Be aware that just because your hospital and surgeon take your insurance that doesnt mean that everyone else will. Oh boy, do those surprises come rolling in! Your doc probably doesnt even know what they will bill you. BUT, unless theyve agreed to accept what your insurance deems reasonable, they will bill you for the rest because THEY DONT WORK FOR THE HOSPITAL, they work at the hospital. So, after you pay the cashier at the little window at the hospital (and you may even be pleased that that insurance you pay so much for controlled the costs for you) you are probably not done. I dont know exactly who spent five minutes at your bedside, but, you will get the bill. I truly believe that there has to be a way to get a hospital to only work with medical staff that accept the major insurance carriers. Some do, like managed care, but I always wanted to keep my options open.
