1 Corinthians 4:5 (AMP) 5 So do not make any hasty or premature judgments before the time when the Lord comes [again], for He will both bring to light the secret things that are [now hidden] in darkness and disclose and expose the [secret] aims (motives and purposes) of hearts. Then every man will receive his [due] commendation from God. Motives are something we need to examine in our lives. Sometimes we do not even realize what our own motives are. It’s hard to be successful if our motives are not pure. We can hide motives from people and ourselves but we cannot hide our motives from God. We can ask God to show us what our true motives are in the issues of life. What kind of life are we building for ourselves? Are we being honest and sincere or are we doing things to get recognition and to feel good about ourselves? How many things do you do daily that you do not feel anointed to do? How many things do you do that you resent? We have to learn to live before God and God alone. Our motive should be to please God. Everything we do should be for God and not anybody else. It might take a while to get a shift in our motives. The first step is taking some time out to examine what we are doing each day. Is what you are doing producing any fruit in your life or in the lives of others. Sometimes we need to just do things because it is the right thing to do. A pure motive is doing something God asks you to do through faith knowing that God will take care of you no matter what. We will never know what we might be giving up in the way of reward from God by doing things for recognition from people. It is not what we do that impresses God but why we do it. Matthew 6:1-4(AMP) 6 Take care not to do your good deeds publicly or before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you will have no reward [[a]reserved for and awaiting you] with and from your Father Who is in heaven. 2 Thus, whenever you give to the poor, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites in the synagogues and in the streets like to do, that they may be [b]recognized and honored and praised by men. Truly I tell you, they have their reward [c]in full already. 3 But when you give to charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 So that your deeds of charity may be in secret; and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you openly.
