1) I came on FB thinking Id see a lot of banter between two good friends Nicole Smith and Melissa Melissa Missy Beller who are die hard Dallas Cowboy and Redskins fans. Didnt see any of it. 2) What I did see was a lot of families posting their most precious and beloved Christmas gifts and asking for remedies and cures for their relatives colds they gave them. 3) And the other thing I saw were more adverts for parties for the New Year, and to come and celebrate in Philly, New York, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Detroit, D.C., San Fransisco, Austin, Denver, Miami.....and a few other cities and I remember as a younger woman in my 20s how nice it would be to see the ball drop in NYC, and see Rockefeller Plaza with the huge Christmas tree. Now that Im in my 40s (not quite middle aged, that starts at 46 & next year) the only place Id want to be is Diomede Island just outside the state of Alaska that lives on both sides of the international date line. I sooooo want to be the FIRST to usher in a new year, no matter what Id have to brave. Solace, alone, memorized by the Northern Lights, and a place that has a rating of 9 in light pollution 1 is the worst on a scale from 1 to 10. Australian outback and the southern half of Africa are the only places that have a 10. There is something about the introspective of a new year, to let go regrets, to learn from mistakes, to record milestones you didnt have time to do at the moment, to chronicle growth. I had a professor that said as an exercise of life, every January 1st, he spends at least 2 days writing his whole entire lifes story in detail. What he found was the storms he had recorded so vividly, the harsh times were getting white washed into a dull oration of his life. It made him think about what did he stand for in his life, and it started to change his thought process each day of the year. What have I done today that has made a change for the better, and was it the most I could humanly do? I think that is a far more noble goal to aspire to than to get drunk, possibly drive home, or let your friends drive drunk, or to get so smashed you dont remember a new year at all. Peace to you my friends, and may you celebrate in a way youre accustomed. Im just offering this for thought and if you do drink, BE SAFE, if you can STAY where you are. Just because youre safe to drive doesnt mean every other driver out there is. Too many looney toons with tempers behind the wheel. Take care, and Ill take a rein-check on those New Years party invites.
