{#1 Issue today @ British Exempire: Tighting the screws.: The Conservatives would reduce the benefit cap to £23,000 a year, David Cameron has said as parties step up their campaigning with 100 days to go to the general election. The Prime Minister says the move, which would be implemented “within the first few days” of a Conservative government, would save £135m. The savings would be invested in a scheme to boost apprenticeships. The current cap is £26,000 a year. A further £120m would be gained by ending housing benefit for 18 to 21-year-olds, Mr Cameron added. He said: “This tells you everything you need to know about our values.
