(10) DAVID CROKETT’S EARLY YEARS. REMOVAL TO LICK CREEK, GREENE COUNTY. In 1792, when David Crockett was about 6 years old his parents, Rebecca Hawkins and John Crockett, left the homestead on the mouth of Limestone Creek, where David was born, and made another move with their now 8 children. David explains in his book “A Narrative of the Life” that his father removed, and settled in the same county about ten miles above Greeneville.” John Crockett had in 1792 acquired a tract of land of 197 acres on Stockton’s Fork of Lick Creek in Greene County. The name of Stockton’s Fork is long time gone, but the creek is still a tributary of Lick Creek. The land, to which the Crocketts moved, was located near the home of Rebecca Hawkins brother, Joseph Hawkins. Today the tract of land is located in the area of Walkertown near Rheatown Road and Snapp Ferry Road (Up Kingsport Hwy. 93 about 10 miles north of Greeneville)
