10 Jan 2000, I joined UCO Bank as Probationary Officer at Calcutta. Same year in July left UCO Bank and joined Punjab National Bank as Management Trainee. 15 years of Banking service completed today. A period, which saw complete change in the way Banking Services are provided in our country. Banks migrated from ledger banking to partial automation then total automation and finally Centralised banking. I feel fortunate to be part of this grand transformation process as got opportunity to work in projects like Internet Banking, Information Security, setup of Data Centre, migration of branches to CBS platform, online tax collection/fee payment projects etc. For a great organization like PNB, this total transformation was a gigantic project where huge resources were required. At the time when there were no IT managers in the bank, hardcore bankers doubled up as IT managers to fill up the gap and overcome numerous issues successfully and completed projects after projects with elan and finesse. I always feel proud to be a miniscule part of this great transformation process. My career in Banks started from the City of Joy - Calcutta. Now after serving in cities like Delhi, Patna, Lucknow and Faizabad, I am again back in Calcutta (now Kolkata) as Chief Manager-SME, an area which currently is focus of the nation. It seems a full cycle is completed and a new cycle is starting from the same great old city. May the journey forward be as challenging and fulfilling as the old one.
