10062014 @ CCF Devotional FAITH MUST CHOOSE Bible Reading: Hebrews 11:23-29 https://biblegateway/audio/mclean/niv/Heb.11 23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command. 24 By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward. 27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them. 29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned. FAITH MUST CHOOSE There are at least three remarkable choices in these verses. The parents of Moses made a choice when he was a tiny baby. He himself made a choice when he came to manhood. The people had to make a choice on the night of the Passover. Faith is often faced with a choice. It is always a choice between what God wants us to do and what we or others want to do. Look at these three choices listed here. When Moses was born into their home, a conviction came into the hearts of his parents that this child must not die as Pharaoh had ordered. They believed that God had brought him into the world for a special work. Therefore they chose to hide him first and then to put him into the river Nile in the well-known story of Exodus 2:1-10. Later Moses parents had to choose again. They had to give up their child to Pharaohs daughter and let him live, not as a Hebrew, but as an Egyptian. Their faith said once more, God will take care of him. Then Moses had to make a choice. He saw that Gods plan was to lead his people out of Egypt. Moses was the only free man among the Hebrews. What should he do? Enjoy the life and privileges that were now his or give them up so he could be part of Gods great plan? Moses chose the will and ways of God. Then it was the turn of the people. Would they believe God and his servant Moses? Were there any that did not put the blood of the lamb on the doorposts? Faith is believing what God has said and acting accordingly. To their credit it would appear that practically all the people did what God through Moses told them to do. Faith must choose. Do you want to be part of Gods great plan to reach the world for Christ? It may cost you everything but it will be the right choice. God will honour you for it. A PRAYER: Lord help me to see what you want me to do and then do it, no matter what the cost may be.
