11/4 ~ Today Im thankful that I come from a family of great cooks! As Im eating leftovers from Moms birthday lunch Im reminded that my family has always been able to cook or at least follow recipes including some of the men. For example, my sister makes a great dish of mash potatoes with cheese and bacon and other stuff and when we are planning a dinner I always say can Keitha bring the potatoes and she always knows which ones I want. My mom makes a lot of great things and its hard to narrow down one but I love her pea salad and her wilted lettuce. Aunt Alice Wenske cooks like me and follows recipes and stuff but she makes an awesome pasta salad and I love it. Grams, our cook extraordinary, makes the best potato soup and knows its my favorite and brings it to me when Im sick or in the hospital. Gramps even gets in on the food kick and makes the best BLTs. Trust me, after eating his, all the rest will pale in comparison. Aunt Gean was our experimenter and could throw everything including the kitchen sink and come up with a 5-star meal but her best in my opinion was her rice dressing and kolaches. Kim Weitz is our pie person in my opinion. Jody is a gourmet cook. He also steps out of the box and I think omelets are his specialties. Missy Yoast does carbonara for me. Simply delicious. Andrew Cheatham is my coffee person, a little coffee with my cream and sugar please, and he always hits it on the nose. James, my brother-in-law, is the bbq person. He mans the grill to perfection. John is our turkey fryer. I have to admit I havent eaten Amandas cooking too much but she has taken over some of Aunt Geans recipes and I hear they are as good. We can all do something in the kitchen and get rave reviews or requests for it again. Jack says I can come to things if I bring cake and his eyes get huge and you can almost see him salivating at the idea. So today, Im thankful for great cooks, those in my family and those who treat me to their dishes. Its amazing that Im not roly-poly and three times my size. Just think, Thanksgiving is coming up and most of those people will be there with their food. Yum!!!!
