12:05 FIRST MEN IN THE MOON - I loved this movie. The talents of Ray Harryhausen and Lionel Jeffries make this a fun movie. I love the science fiction of the great HG Wells and although the movie diverges from the original quite a bit, it captures the charm and adventure. I am so happy that it played as the lkick-off movie as it brought back memeories of seeing science fiction at the kids matinee in the 60s. 1:55p WESTWORLD - Never a huge fan of this movie. It is fun but the story has so many holes and the there are too many unanswered questions making a willing suspension of disbelief impossible. 3:35p COHERENCE - A terrific story of multiverses in collision. 5:05p Contest #1 5:15p THE POWER - It was probably to dated and slow for most of the audience but I really enjoy the movie. 7:10p EUROPA REPORT - Probably the best of the found footage sub-genre because the movie is shot as a film rather than as a found footage. Of course, this requires the unlikely positioning of a lot of camers but that I can let go. The story of a journey to Jupiters moon never becaomes boring to the viewer. 8:40p Q&A with screenwriter Philip Gelatt 9:05p SILENT RUNNING - This has not aged well although I admit that I have never been all that fond of the movie. It is far too long and runs out of story. It would have made for a tight one hour Outer Limits. 10:35p Aluminum Hat Contest 10:45p THE TRUMAN SHOW - I love Peter Weir. I had not seen this since its initial release and it was a real treat. Reality TV and its huge success predicted very early on in this movie. 12:30a Dancing with the Quarks Contest 12:40a ELECTRIC DREAMS - Nowhere near as bad as I remembered. It is hokey and silly to be sure and the music is so dated but is was a lot of fun. The thon audioence can certainly help a movie 2:20a THE VISITOR - However, not always. THis was not The Apple bad, it was just mostly all bad. A few crazy wtf moments that were funny but far too few. I slept off and on through this but the general consensus of the folks that I was with confirmed my feelings. 4:15a THE WORLD THE FLESH & DEVIL - A great apocalyptic movie and I am so happy that it finally played the marathon. Very powerful interracial message that does not cop out on the ending. 6:20a GRABBERS - Fun surprise of the evening. Going nto movies such as these you dont know if you are going to get Tremors or Trail of the Screaming Forehead. I am happy to report that it was much more like Tremors than Trail. A great story, solid production, good acting, competent fx all made for a great story. 8:00a CHILDREN OF MEN - One of my favorite science fiction films. A terrific director and dp, a marvelous end-of-days story set in dystopia, brilliant casting - Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, the superb Michael Caine, the awesome Chiwetel Ejiofor, heck even brief apearances by Danny Huston and Charlie Hunnam make for a terrific movie that always moves me to tears.. 10:00a FLASH GORDON - its goofy and its silly but I kinda like it.
