12/26/14 Narragansett Town Council meeting on 1/5/15 Dave’s Marketplace proposed location at 360 South Pier Rd, the ‘Ocean Club’ If you are a Narragansett resident and would like to have a Dave’s Marketplace in town, come to the Town Council meeting on Monday, January 5th, at 7pm to show your support of Dave’s proposed location at the Narragansett Roller Rink. Churchill & Banks, Stop and Shop’s Rhode Island real estate developer, offered to buy the town’s property to the south of Dunkin Donuts on Kingstown Rd, for the sole purpose of blocking access to the proposed Dave’s Marketplace site at the roller rink property. This is a tactic used by certain supermarkets called ‘land banking,’ to stifle competition, in which they buy up land to block likely sites that might be suitable for competing local grocery store development. Come to the Town Hall, located at 25 Fifth Avenue on Monday, January 5th, at 7pm, to make sure that you, the consumer, will receive the benefits of competition- such as value, choice, innovation, and convenience.
