13,672 Graduates Received Assistance Through SL1M Since 2011 - Wahid Omar PUTRAJAYA, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- A total of 13,672 graduates have received assistance under the 1Malaysia Training Scheme (SL1M) since it was started in June 2011. Minister in the Prime Ministers Department Datuk Seri Abd Wahid Omar said the number showed that SL1M, under the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Ministers Department, had achieved its objective to help graduates boost their marketability and find jobs. The programme has been well received by government-linked companies (GLC) and private sector companies since it was first introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in 2011. Since then 49 GLCs have been involved with SL1M and have given a high level of commitment to the programme by helping 8,262 graduates to join them, he told reporters after a SL1M dialogue session with chief executive officers from GLC and private sector companies participating in SL1M and handing over Exemplary Award certificates to the companies, here, Tuesday. Wahid said the government targeted 4,000 graduates for SL1M programmes in the future with the cooperation and participation of GLCs and 100 private sector companies. In the programme, graduates who could not get jobs in six months after graduating had the opportunity to undergo training at GLC for one year and qualified for a minimum allowance of RM1,000 a month. Among the GLCs taking part in the programme are Affin Bank Berhad, Celcom Axiata Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, Telekom Malaysia Berhad and Tenaga Nasional Berhad. SL1M is also open to working graduates whose jobs are not on par with their qualification, he said. Participants of SL1M would undergo soft skills training and on the job training, with the companies taking part, to boost their communicating skills, self-confidence and exposure to a real work environment, said Wahid.
