13 years ago I was in New York on Staten Island. I was well and walking the telecom office park twice a day. My Freind John Bassett came to my cube and told me a plane had hit the towers. We could see the smoke from the window. At that point we heard that a second plane had hit the towers. My immediate thought was not that big a deal how much damage could there be. I went for my walk and reflected on what Bush would do. I knew our government would exploit the incident to oppress the masses but I had no idea it would be this extensive and this long. 13 years of wars and killing Stripping citizens and non citizens of life and rights Torturing people and creating a new class of person (enemy combatant) to circumvent the Geneva accord which is designed to protect all soldiers especially our own from torture. Abu graib a torture convenience store. Guantanamo a place created to circumvent U.S. and international laws and treaties. Warrant less surveillance of the entire U.S. Endless fear mongering Vilifying every non Christian on the planet What was done in the aftermath far outweighs the original actions. Over 174,000 civilians killed Over 8000 soldiers lost 4.4 trillion spent and still rising These actions have destabilized the region for a generation and more to come. I pray that peace will settle in our hearts and across the region and the world.
