14:55 Sep 26 WA Severe Weather Warning: Damaging Winds. Esperance, Southern Cross, Kalgoorlie. Details: Early Warning Network: ewn.au WA Severe Weather Warning: Damaging Winds for people in the Gascoyne, Goldfields, Eucla, South East Coastal and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts Issued at 2:49 pm WST on Friday 26 September 2014. For people in parts of WA south of a line from Esperance to Merredin to Paynes Find to Mount Magnet to Leinster to Laverton to Eyre. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Esperance, Southern Cross and Kalgoorlie. Weather Situation An approaching cold front will cause northwest winds to strengthen during Saturday morning. DAMAGING NORTHWEST WINDS may reach 90 kilometres per hour and could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. Areas of raised dust may also occur. DAMAGING WINDS are likely to develop after 11am Saturday morning and should ease by about 6pm Saturday evening. These conditions are unusual for this time of year and may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: Store or weigh down loose objects such as outdoor furniture. Have an emergency kit with a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit. Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area. Move vehicles under cover. Boat owners should securely moor their boats. Campers should find shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
