14 cops hurt in Kashmir blast Saturday, 07 September 2013 14:06.Srinagar: CNS At least 14 policemen and a civilian were injured when unidentified persons lobbed police party outside a hospital in Pulwama district inSouth Kashmir. Reports said that after day long duty scores of policemen had gathered outside district hospital Pulwama and were taking rest. Unidentified persons hurled a grenade which exploded with a big bang injuring 14 policemen and a civilian. Seven policemen were referred to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in critical condition. Witnesses said told police and CRPF fired some aerial shots soon after the grenade attack that created panic in the area. “We exercised maximum restraintand did not aim at anyone. The policemen fired in air to defend themselves,” Dy Sp Headquarters Sajad Ahmed said. The injured policemen have been identified as Ghulam Muhammad Dar (758), Manzoor Ahmed (757), Zahoor Ahmed Ganaie (100), Muhammad Shafi (302), Muhammad Yousf (514), Ghulam Nabi (848), Fayaz Ahmed (600), Gowhar Bhat (220), Bilal Ahmed (1595) andAarif Shafi. One civilian, Bashir Ahmed from New Colony Pulwama suffered minor injuries. Meanwhile, Hizbul Mujhadeenclaimed the responsibility of the attack saying that attackwas carried out by its special squad. HM Operational Spokesperson, Baleeg-u-Dinsaid on phone that such attacks would be carried out in future as well. “Police and SOG are our target and our Mujhadeen would attack themin future as well,” he said.
