16 years ago,one fine morning i escorted my dad to Mandera district hospital.i was advised at the general outpatient desk that we do sputum TEST.The mzee was found to have TB.I took him to the TB dept area where after an injection and some take away tablets we were sent to the TB manyatta, isolated cubicles, dark, dusty and scattered under accacia trees. At around 9pm my dads developed breathing problem,he begged me to look for a daktari,i rushed to the wards to males ward in the main hospital to see if i could a nurse who could attend my dad.I was just a rer baadia and things were had for me.The nurses i found could not attend to my dad who was in the TB manyatta, about 500m away. They advised me to see the then MOH.i tried to get his attention but he never bothered to talk to me.I came back to the wards 3 times and on the 3rd time when i went back to him,he was already dead. There was no nurse for TB patient.I never went back to that hospital since that time.Every 24th of march reminds of that night-that was a story by a relative on WORLD TB DAY.
