Newspaper article from The Colfax Chronicle, 28 July 1917. GRANT PARISH FIRST 200 NAMES SUBJECT TO U.S. ARMY CALL We print below the approximate list of two hundred names of the men in Grant parish who are subject to the first army draft call. From this list the 99 men that constitute the quota for Grant parish are to be selected. The names and numbers given are not official, but they have been carefully checked over and compared with the numbers published in the papers, and in the main we think will be found correct. The war department finds it impossible to determine how great the number of exemptions will be, but they estimate that the physical rejections will be about 30 per cent. The other exemptions may bring the rejections up to 50 per cent. So it is quite likely 99 men will be secured in Grant parish without calling in any more men than the first 200 drawn. Here is the list: Note we did not print the entire list provided in the article, only number 309 which was Dallas Rufus Vinson, Colfax, Louisiana. (Note: Actual spelling of name was Rufus Dallas Vinson, confirmed on Marriage certificate and grave stone.) Note 4.
