18,Muharram 1435 AH: 23 November 2013 ‘NC invited army to Kashmir, sold JK’s resources to Delhi’ Mirwaiz hits back at Omar for ‘dual approach’ talk ABID BASHIR Srinagar, Nov 22: A day after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah charged separatist leaders with having a dual approach, the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday hit back at Omar saying “we demand the return of state’s resources bartered by the National Conference leaders since 1947.” Addressing Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid here, Umar said all mainstream leaders stand exposed after the former Indian army Chief General V K Singh revealed that “they (mainstreamers) were on the payrolls of Army and signified that elections in J&K are always stage- managed.” Mirwaiz said it was the National Conference leadership which “sold the State’s water and other resources to grab power.” “Be it Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah or Farooq Abdullah or even Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, all played with the emotions of people of Kashmir and made them dependent economically through their misdeeds,” Mirwaiz said, with people responding with pro-freedom slogans. He accused the NC leaders of “crushing the popular sentiment” in Kashmir by “entering into various accords since the partition.” “Some NC leaders even suggested that Pakistan should be bombarded,” he said. “The Hurriyat demands back the resources that have been looted by the NC leaders. They gifted prized power projects to New Delhi, thus plunging Kashmir into a dark era. It is because of their misdeeds that Kashmiris reel under darkness even before the onset of winter,” Mirwaiz said. He said the Hurriyat would continue to demand the assets “that have landed in Delhi’s lap with the active support of NC leaders.” “It is the same party that invited army to Kashmir in 1947. NC is responsible for the bloodshed of Kashmiris. The party has always been supporting New Delhi’s agenda to grab power,” Mirwaiz said. In an apparent reference to Chief Minister, the Hurriyat (M) chairman said the amalgam will continue to raise the issues of public importance no matter what pro-India politicians say. “We are the true representatives of the blood of martyrs and assets whatever little have been left with us,” Mirwaiz said. He said the Hurriyat won’t allow any mainstream politician to go for further sell- out of State’s resources be it land, water or electricity. “We will oppose any such move aimed at further sell-out of JK’s resources,” he said. He said “almost all institutions and government departments are neck deep in corruption.” “Those heading these departments claim to be representatives of people which is an irony,” Mirwaiz said. “Kashmiris, who hardly see electricity, especially during winter months, are being forced to pay huge electricity bills. They are looting common people by all means.” He said the elections in Kashmir have always been a farce as proved by General V K Singh. “When mainstream leaders are on payrolls since 1947, one can well imagine the sanctity of elections held so far,” he said. He said elections can never be a substitute to Kashmir solution. “Hurriyat’s stand is clear; either tripartite dialogue or UN resolutions should be implemented to resolve the vexed issue,” he said. He said Hurriyat would continue to stand “like a rock as far Kashmir resolution is concerned.” “We will follow the mission of martyrs of 1931 and those who sacrificed their lives over the past two decades,” he said.
