18 years. Good Lord, Ive never been able to stick with anything for more than a few minutes. I got fired from my first job because I didnt like lifting more than 17 pounds (plus, I was scared of red wasps). I flunked out of band class in 7th grade because I couldnt play more than 17 taps on the snare drum before I spontaneously broke out into a Neil Peart solo type-thing, sending the poor band instructor into a fit of rage which prompted him to flunk me out. I smoked cigarettes for 17 years, then I gave that up. I listened to Aerosmith for 17 minutes in 1975 before I declared, this is bullshit. I liked history, because it always brought me a semblance of context in a world gone crazy (The Battle of San Jacinto lasted 17 minutes). When I turned 17 years old, the neighborhood bully in our town proclaimed that he would kill me the following week because I preferred music to football. So I quit high school, deciding to major in pinball, and became quite well known for scoring 17,999,996 points on a popular table called Space Mission. But tomorrow, given the luck of the draw and the perfect alignment of the stars, my luck will change forever and for better. Tomorrow, I will have been married to my best friend and the love of my life for... 18 years. Im glad today is Sunday, and Im glad I dont have to travel. Im glad I dont have a show, a task, a trial, jury duty, or anything else that might keep me from achieving this milestone, because my heart is set on it. As of November 17th, 2014, I will be able to wish my beautiful wife a happy 18th anniversary. I think this is cool. I have achieved something most constructive. I love you with all of my heart, Veronica Burns.
