18 years ago today my daughter Siân was born. At that time I was a serving soldier, I had already taken the decision to leave the army and in 1997 I left. I left something I loved being, and a job I loved doing (most of the time), I did this because I wanted to be a father to my new born daughter, more than wanted to be a soldier. I wanted to be there, I wanted to give Siân stability and a home. I left the army almost homeless and after 10 months in civvi street struggling to fit in with my new locality and culture I contemplated joining back up. I was failing as a civilian and as a husband and Dad I didnt fit in, I still dont. Then we moved to the house Im in today which is our home, I changed job tried to be a civilian rather than the soldier I was. I look back at that time and then I look at my wife and daughter. My birthday girl who I love so much 18 yrs later looking at the women she has become and the relationship we have, and all that has passed I can honestly say it was the hardest and best decision of my life.
