1937 KW OFF ROAD LOGGING TRUCK 12FT. BUNKS No.# 45 Collins pine..This Kenworth was purchased new, by the Grande Rhonde Pine Co.* in Portland, OR and driven from the KW Garage through the One-Way Streets after 3:00 a.m. to get it to the Highway. (Now I-84) The Off-Road Logging Truck No. 45 originally came with Chain Drive & 14 Bunks. When the war and lack of Pine caused the Sawmill to close, No. 45 was driven to Chester, CA where the Bunks were reduced to 12 and Brass Worm-Drive rear ends replaced the chain, air brakes where added and the Kenworth Glider, as you see pictured, replaced the original cab due to a longer than expected log which crushed the square windowed cab. This Kenworth was used in the Logging Operation at Collins Pine Company, of Chester, CA. The fleet of 20 Off Road KWs and 2 Cornbinders traveled the Private Roads of the company for over 44 years compiling over 8 billion board feet of Ponderosa and Sugar Pine. These Off Road KWs easily handled over 300,000 thousand lbs. of logs with the aid of water cooled brakes kept these off roaders humming into the mid 80s when through lack of maintenance and parts the fleet was dismantled and put to pasture. You can see this and some other equipment at the Collins Pine Meseum in Chester, California just off Highway 36E going to Reno
