1967. Written by Joni Mitchell. She was on an airplane, was inspired by a book passage, and wrote the song during the flight. Surprisingly, Joni Mitchell let Judy Collins release a cover version before herself. The Judy Collins version reached #8 on the U.S. pop singles charts, and in early 1969 won a Grammy Award for Best Folk Performance. This performance was considered much better that Joni Mitchells. The record peaked at #3 on Billboards Easy Listening survey and has become one of Collins signature songs. At the time, many artists covered the song for its written beauty. These included Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Leonard Nimoy (Spock), Engelbert Humperdinck, and many others, even Sesame Street had a version. Rolling Stone ranked Both Sides, Now #171 on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Here in an original and live recording.
