199 years ago at daw this morning, the British had been confident to the point of arrogant that they would pummel and capture Fort McHenry and Baltimore, and after a night of furious bombardment by the British, Francis Scott Key anxiously awaited the dawn light ... and to his amazement and enormous delight he saw flying over Fort McHenry this enormous 30 ft. X 42 ft. flag from 3 miles away on a British warship and was so inspired that he wrote the Star Spangled Banner.
