2 Timothy 2:19 “But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.” Many people today labor under the delusion that either there is no God or that He isnt really paying attention. Both groups are fooling themselves and I honestly cant think of anything sadder than someone trying to live their life in that fashion. Not only is God there, He knows us, especially those that are His. And if God knows us, knows our potential, knows our weaknesses, knows our struggles, then He certainly knows how hard we try to do His will. This can either be a great comfort or a dire warning to us. You see, if we have a particular sin in our lives that we are trying to avoid but we keep slipping, our God knows that we are trying. I dont believe that He only looks at our results. He also looks at our level of effort. I believe that we are getting credit for the fact that we tried instead of only getting blamed for the fact that we failed. Our Father will strengthen us to be able to try again and again if necessary, until we can finally claim victory. On the other hand however, the fact that God knows us means that we cant fool Him. We can convince the people around us that we are giving our best effort, but if we arent God will know. He sees our heart and there is no getting around it. Knowing all this, it is vital that we depart from iniquity. We cant just stay where we are and try to do better. We must flee from sin in all its forms. If you are having trouble with something, get away from it. Dont allow yourself to be in situations where you will be tempted. Adjust your life so that you can stay strong. This is never easy. It can even mean that you will have to cut people from your life. But sometimes drastic action is called for and, since we are talking about the health of our everlasting soul, nothing could be more important.
