2 White Females at Tuks University paint their Faces Black & Brown - TopicsExpress

2 White Females at Tuks University paint their Faces Black & Brown dressed as Domestic Workers is regarded as [Racism]! I must say, I am overwhelmed with disappointment by the perspective and feel exerted by some individuals within our black community. I am greatly saddened by the energy invested in this issue taking into account where we come from as a country- it hurts to see my black brothers exercising such hatred and provoking a Racial War that will not benefit South Africa in any way. 1. The fact we are able to identify the that the Girls were portraying domestic workers, (who essentially were black since slavery) is mere acknowledgment and the display to factual thus the girls doing no wrong. 2. I have a problem who have selective beliefs, selective morals, selective religion and selective Culture. For Example: If you want to follow and believe a certain Religion- You must accept and practice it to its maximum. You cannot choose what to follow/believe and what not to follow/believe because you will somewhat become contradictory. So, if what happened today is received as offensive- then Leon Schuster should have been attacked in the name of Racism as well for the many times he portrayed a black male as a token of amusement and illiterate. 3. Our skin colour, our townships, our bright colour clothes, our music, our food and our languages define who we are as a race; because of the list above we are different; because of all that we as the black community have a Heritage that we take Pride in. -FYI, Our roles in society and history also defines us as a Race- Slavery defines us. Poverty defines us... We need not only take Pride in what makes us comfortable- As much as we Embrace our different foods, music and languages- we ought to Embrace the Slavery, Poverty and Discrimination on that same level. Our Heritage does not shape our Future- but Our Heritage reminds us of where we come from so we better where we are going. Dont get me wrong, I am not condoning what happened at TUKS, I am merely against the effect we have allowed this issue to have on us. Personally, I embrace being a product from slavery. I embrace have roots of Kaffirs. I embrace with Pride being Shangaan- despite of the Negative Past... All those titles define my kind, history and ancestors. But Nkateko Mbhalati defines Me as an Individual. I dont waste my time entertaining negativity flooded my way because: •It is not what you call me that matters, it is what I respond to. -Chika Onyeani •Nobody can ever do anything to you, unless you let them!- Maya Angelou By these two quotes; I have equipped myself with Emotional Intelligence and now have the ability to determine if my reaction will brew any sort of benefit to me. If not, I quickly brush off that emotion and move on with My Life. In closing- I am not moved by what the 2 white girls did at TUKS- I am not careless; I am rather in control of my persona and very little human activity can influence beyond my control. And this attitude has made me happier and focused! Nkateko. #Avuxeni
