20 August 2013 Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international enterprise for cooperation and sustainable development, owned by the German Federal Government and active in 130 countries worldwide. On behalf of German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, GIZ has been working in Tajikistan since 1995. Under the program “Adaptation to climate change through sustainable forest management” GIZ is supporting the implementation of sustainable forest management approaches in five districts in Tajikistan and respective capacity building of the leskhozes and State agency for forestry and hunting (SFHA). The objective is to enable national forestry agency, local leskhozes and forest users to rehabilitate, in coordination with other stakeholders involved in land use issues, the degraded forests under consideration of climate change and the preservation of biodiversity. The Program is inviting applicants for the following vacant positions: Project Expert on GIS and data management Period of employment from September 1, 2013 until August 31, 2014, with the possibility for extension. The position is based in Dushanbe. Responsibilities The Project Expert is responsible for coordination of GIS and monitoring related activities and provision of GIS and data management support for the implementation of project activities. General tasks Supports the introduction of appropriate GIS, data management and monitoring approaches in forest management Develops GIS/IT based tools to support and harmonize the monitoring of project activities in the project areas Builds capacities of selected SFHA staff and the subordinated leskhozes, especially young staff, as well as experts of implementing partner organizations establishes and maintains a network of GIS specialists and organizations involved in natural resource monitoring and land use assessment Management of a database of existing Rapid Eye images of Tajikistan, as well as preparation of images for Land cover assessments and digitization, including georeferencing and mosaicing Supports activities in the context of a (national) forest inventory Requirements university background in natural sciences, preferably mathematics, biology or geography good knowledge of mathematics and basic understanding of mapping concepts experiences in IT especially in programming and network administration and GIS High motivation and ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs; Team player with a strong interest to work in an international environment; Excellent written and spoke Tajik and Russian and at least moderate English; Application consisting of a COVER LETTER and CV should be sent to [email protected] or GIZ Office Dushanbe, Ayni/Nazarshoev Str. no later August 20, 2013, 17:00.
