20 SMALL FIRES FOUND ON DFPA LAND By Kyle Bailey News Radio 1240 KQEN kyle@bciradio August 11, 2013 7:00 a.m. Lightning on Friday and Saturday peppered parts of Douglas County. The Douglas Forest Protective Association has located 20 fires on the Douglas District. All are small in size and range from one half acre down to a single burning tree. Firefighters are working to contain those fires. Most lightning strikes were south of Sutherlin and east of Interstate Five. Moderate to heavy rain accompanied the thunder storms. While that has helped to keep the fires in check, it has also made them hard to locate. Both firefighters and aviation resources will be out on Sunday to look for additional lightning caused fires. Kyle Reed of DFPA says the rain has helped to take the edge off of fire season for now, but conditions should return to or exceed the seasonal averages in the next few days as warmer dry weather returns.
